The Common Claim: “You Christians follow what you want in that bible you love so much! In fact you zero in on homosexuality in Leviticus 18:22, but ignore other verses!” “I don’t want anything to do with that bible!”
The Answer: First, what does Leviticus 18:22, say? “[A male] shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” (NAS) This is God’s rule against a perversion of his intention when he created man and woman. They were made bodily and spiritually for companionship and for the purpose of creating children. Homosexuality violates this responsibility and capability. Okay, now that we know what it says and means do Christians pick and choose the laws of God to follow; are they hypocrites?
Let’s think about that accusation shall we? Non-Christians (atheists, pseudo Christians, and especially the gay crowd and their enablers) accuse Christians of not living a worldview that they themselves refuse to follow! And here’s the chaser: they claim Christians especially target homosexuals! Does that make sense to you? It doesn’t to me and here’s my feeble attempt to show why.
They point out Leviticus 18:22, but forget what 19:11-15, says.
Now, the average antagonist will naturally say he agrees that everything those five verses teach are right. Good for him only now he has a new problem. He’s guilty of what he accuses Christians of doing- picking and choosing! See, he denounces Leviticus 18:22, but claims to believe in 19:11-15! Do you know what else? Until now he didn’t know he was picking and choosing!
The antagonist’s follow-up response is basically: “Well I agree those things condemned in Leviticus 19, are wrong because everybody else knows those things are wrong!” Nice try but what Lev.19, says was written long before you, me or “everybody else” was around. See, the Holy Bible has shaped everyone’s worldview whether we ever realize or acknowledge it or not! So just because someone doesn’t know they pick and choose doesn’t eliminate the fact that they’re guilty of picking and choosing. That makes them guilty of the same hypocrisy they accuse Christians of! They’re hypocritical out of ignorance but that doesn’t negate the fact that they’re guilty of it.
So, in the final analysis, by logical deduction if one accuses the Holy Bible of being un-authoritative or irrelevant or they just don’t want anything to do with it they’re essentially saying that God’s laws, some deep down they agree with, are all wrong! They do that any time they reject any part of Leviticus or the other 65 books and they do it because they don’t want their morale compass to be lined up with any of it! See, they pick and choose too! This makes God have a white hot anger at them. You either accept Him totally and completely or you will suffer the second death! He didn’t sacrifice his only son on the cross only to have the laws he co-wrote in the Godhead to be obeyed in some cafeteria style fashion!
But are Christians picking and choosing verses in the Holy Bible to follow? The short answer is yes! They do pick and choose but the explanation on why is can be found in Part 3.
